
Here is a list of things to check before you move.
4-2 weeks to go
• Contact insurance companies and change or annul your policies.
• Inform school or nursery that your child /children are moving.
• Book after removal cleaning if required.
• Book any workmen, electricians, plumbers etc that may be required.
1 week to go
• Inform Svensk Adressändring AB, tel. 020-979899 of your move as well as the Post Office, banks, insurance companies, tax authorities, newspaper subscriptions etc
• Inform relatives, friends and clubs of your change of address.
• Inform telephone operator of change of address.
• Cancel electricity subscription.
• Cancel or inform newspaper suppliers of change of address and inform television companies of your move.
• Order a skip/container if necessary.
• Arrange storage if required.
• Arrange pet transport if necessary.
• Order moving boxes.
• Go through the attic, cellar, storeroom and garage. Sort out clothes, books and anything else to be discarded or given to charity.
6-3 days to go
• Start packing all items you won’t need the next few days.
• Draw up a plan of the house/apartment you are moving to.
• Write on each box in which room it should be placed.
• If you are going to clean yourself make sure not to pack cleaning items.
• Think of anything you might have stored elsewhere with relatives or friends etc that need to be moved to your new location.
2-1 days to go
• Collect all smaller items of value such as jewellery, bankbooks, documents etc to be taken in your own hand baggage.
• Provide the movers with a plan of your new home and write on each box where it should be placed.
• Go through the kitchen and pack all chinaware and glass. If you have employed a removal company, you should let them do this as they are then responsible for any breakages. Clean all the shelves and cupboards. Take down curtains. Roll up all mats and carpets.
• Collect all the keys to your old home and make sure you have keys to the new one.
Moving day
• Pack all remaining items.
• Turn of the fridge and freezer.
• Check that the washing machine is empty and that no water remains in it. If it is being moved, make sure it is properly transported.
• Take a reading of the electricity meter.
• Make sure the stove/cooker is turned off and that all windows are closed.
• Show packing staff the items that are particularly fragile.
• Instruct staff where your belongings are to be placed in your new home.
• Check all spaces to make sure they are empty before the removal lorry leaves.
• Hand over keys to the new owner or real estate agent.
